SINGLE GRAIN whisky, distilled at Port Dundas Distillery on 31st January 1991 and filled into hogsheads. Details are shown in the table below.
Cask 15676 contains 101.61litres of alcohol. If bottled at 55% the cask will yield 101.61/0.55/0.7=264 70cl bottles. The cask is priced at £2000 so the cost of the alcohol in each bottle is therefore 2000/264=£7.58. UK Excise Duty per bottle would be £25.52 x 0.55 x 0.7=£9.83. If bottling costs are £2.50 then the total UK Duty Paid price would be £7.58+£9.83+£2.50=£19.91+VAT@20%=£23.89. At 46% the price per bottle would be £20.47.
Duty & VAT do not have to be paid until the whisky is removed from the Duty Free Warehouse.
I have now provided an editable Excel spreadsheet which calculates the total cost including Duty in various countries.
